Academic Council

College Academic Council is formed to discuss the academic matters of the college. Members of the committee offer their suggestions and directions for the smooth functioning of the college in academic aspects. They also take the decisions regarding detention and condonation of attendance of Students.

Academic Council shall meet at least twice a year.

Functions of the Academic Council:

The Academic Council shall have powers to:

  1. Scrutinize and approve proposals of the Boards of Studies with regard to courses of study, academic regulations, curricula, syllabi and modifications thereof, instructional and evaluation arrangements, methods, procedures, etc. If differing on any proposal, it can return the matter for reconsideration or reject it after giving reasons.
  2. Make regulations regarding the admission of students to different programmes of study in the college keeping in view the policy of the Government.
  3. Make regulations for sports, extra-curricular activities, and proper maintenance and functioning of playgrounds and hostels.
  4. Recommend to the Governing Body proposals for institution of new programmes of study.
  5. Recommend to the Governing Body institution of scholarships, studentships, fellowships, prizes, and medals, and frame regulations for the award of the same.
  6. Advise the Governing Body on suggestions pertaining to academic affairs made by it.
  7. Perform such other functions as may be assigned by the Governing Body.

The Board of Studies is the basic constituent of the academic system of an autonomous college. Its functions include framing syllabi for various courses, reviewing and updating syllabi from time to time, introducing new courses, determining details of continuous assessment, and recommending panels of examiners under the semester system.

Term:

The term of the nominated members shall be three years. The Board of Studies shall be held at least once every six months.

Meetings:

The Principal of the college shall draw the schedule for meeting of the Board of Studies for different Departments. Meetings may be scheduled as necessary, but at least twice a year.

Functions of the Board of Studies:
  1. Prepare syllabi for various courses keeping in view the objectives of the college, interest of the stakeholders, and national requirements for approval by the Academic Council.
  2. Suggest methodologies for innovative teaching and evaluation techniques.
  3. Suggest panels of names to the Academic Council for appointment of examiners.
  4. Coordinate research, teaching, extension, and other academic activities in the department/college.

The Finance Committee is a statutory body constituted as per the guidelines of the UGC. It functions as an advisory body to the Governing Body on financial matters of the institution.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare budget estimates relating to grants received/receivable from UGC, and income from fees, etc., for activities under the scheme of autonomy.
  2. Audit accounts for the above.
  3. No expenditure other than that provided in the budget shall be incurred by the Institute without the approval of the Finance Committee.
  4. Scrutinize the budget submitted by the different departments and monitor the utilization of departmental budgets.
  5. Prepare estimated income from various sources such as tuition fees, interests, grants, other fees, and estimated expenditure under heads like buildings and infrastructure, establishment, college maintenance, etc., usually in March of every year. These budget estimates are prepared with input from various Department HODs, Central facilities, CDC, etc.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) works to ensure quality enhancement in academic and administrative processes of the institution through systematic monitoring and feedback mechanisms.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  1. Development and application of quality benchmarks/parameters for academic and administrative activities.
  2. Arrange feedback from students, parents, and other stakeholders on institutional processes.
  3. Disseminate information on quality parameters of higher education.
  4. Monitor inter- and intra-institutional workshops, seminars on quality themes, and promotion of quality circles.
  5. Develop and maintain an institutional database to enhance quality.
  6. Prepare the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) based on NAAC, NBA, and other relevant criteria.
  7. Check syllabus coverage monthly and take corrective measures for any deviation.
  8. Plan and conduct Value Added Programs each semester for students across all streams.
  9. Ensure students complete training activities like internships and implant training during breaks or after exams.
  10. Collect feedback from students, parents, and stakeholders on quality-related processes.
  11. Invite suggestions emphasizing institutional policies and processes.
  12. Document all activities leading to quality improvement.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Frame rules for the award of marks and degree.
  • Ensure that the evaluation and moderation process is completed on time.
  • Declare the results on time and submit the results gazettes to the University.
  • Publish the results on the college website, sending a copy to the respective HODs.
  • Handle cases of unfair means in examinations and other result-related issues.
  • Deal with student applications for recounting, revaluation, etc.

πŸ‘₯ Internal Complaints Committee

In pursuance of UGC (Prevention, prohibition and redressal of sexual harassment of women employees and girl students in higher educational institutions) Regulations 2015, the existing Sexual Harassment Redressal Committee is re-named as Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to deal with complaints relating to sexual harassment at the workplace. The ICC receives complaints from aggrieved women, inquires into them, and makes recommendations to the employer regarding the action required pursuant to its inquiry.

OBJECTIVES:
  • Resolve problems raised by women employees and girl students of SREC.
  • Create a safe, secure, and homely environment for girl students and women faculty.
Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Prepare the Policy Document related to ICC.
  • Maintain online/offline submission of faculty grievances.
  • Avoid and prohibit sexual harassment at the workplace.
  • Maintain commitment to an environment free of gender-based discrimination.
  • Offer services such as counselling and legal aid in case of atrocities against women.
  • Conduct preliminary enquiry of all reported cases/complaints relating to sexual harassment.
  • Submit preliminary enquiry report to the Principal with recommendations.
  • Evolve and suggest preventive measures.
  • Refer complaints not in the nature of sexual harassment to the Grievance Redressal Cell.
  • Promote social and psychological awareness on sexual harassment.
  • Disseminate knowledge about women’s rights and laws.
  • Build self-esteem and dignity among girl students and women faculty.
  • Protect the safety of complainants by maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ensure complainants providing false/malicious complaints are dealt with as per UGC Regulations 2015.
  • Make recommendations to senior management for compliance resources or actions.
  • Keep all records intact and in proper order.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of each case describing methods adopted and settlements reached.
